"The Kid from Kiln, MS"
Growing up in Kiln, Mississippi, the kid with the middle name Lorenzo was actually one of the best baseball players in the state.  Brett lead Hancock High School in batting every season.  He probably could have continued his baseball career into the minor leagues, had it not been for the continuous convincing by his coaches of his unlimited potential as a quarterback.

It didn't take long for Favre to establish himself, not only as a fan favorite, but a respected leader umong his teammates as well.

"Brett is our leader...He brings a lot of poise to the huddle.  He calms us down."
                                                                                                    -Chafan Marsh, 1990
                                                                                                     USM 27, Alabama 24

The victory over Alabama was emotional for many reasons.  During the summer of 1990, Brett suffered internal injuries in a serious auto accident.  So serious was the accident that 30 inches of his intestines were surgically removed.  Just one month later undergoing the surgery, Brett lead Southern Miss to another stunning victory over Alabama.

The #4 jersey at Southern Miss was retired in September of 1993.
Brett Favre was inducted into the Legends Club in April of 1997.
